Gettysburg monuments,
one place at a time.

NPS inventory map · supported newer-source points · individual identities preserved

NPS inventory, with documented newer-source positions. The newest bulk direct-NPS monument-coordinate export located, published in 2003, contains 1,465 Gettysburg records. For 19 documented same-object cases, newer NPS Places points take precedence; four additional records use newer USDOT-hosted park-cartographer geometry. All original coordinates remain preserved. A focused view shows six existing government-source update records, including two unresolved legacy crosswalks. Nearby distinct monuments are never merged. NPS labels the inventory incomplete; this map preserves available source records and does not claim an exhaustive physical-monument census.

Choose a source record

Review its identity, provenance and outstanding questions. Research coordinates are not navigation assurances.

Little Round Top: 22 provisional flank correspondences, 6 unresolved

These are 28 source headings, not 28 newly accepted pins. Parent monument IDs and names are not unique physical-object identities.

How completeness and location accuracy will be established
  1. Reconcile an item-level inventory with distinct monuments, flank/position markers, tablets and other objects.
  2. Keep source snapshots and raw coordinates; cross-check identity before comparing positions.
  3. Record source, capture date, method, datum and accuracy separately. Hosting date is not survey date.
  4. Resolve conflicting names, shared IDs, missing inventory and outlying/property features.
  5. Join James’s photographs by verified identity, then test the map on desktop and mobile.
  6. Retain source dates and separate source-record identities. Do not move or merge nearby objects. Publication is blocked until independent accuracy, placement and completeness gates pass.

NPS’s public total of 1,328 monuments/markers and the broader 1,830 inventory description use different scopes. The 409, 1,465 and 1,518 datasets overlap; do not add or subtract them to claim coverage.
